All rooms in our maison maître are elegantly decorated with love for detail. From the impressive entrance leads a wide stone staircase to the upper floor. There you’ll find the three large bedrooms with big comfortable beds and the ballroom-like bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. Downstairs you will find the kitchen, equipped with just about everything you can imagine. Through the wide double doors you walk right onto the terrace and into the garden.
The large ‘salon’ is equipped with sofas, armchairs, a big fireplace and an adjoining dining room to eat with ten people. In the bookcase you will find Dutch, French and English novels, as well as many touristic reference books. There is a DVD player with widescreen display, an excessively large film collection and an old fashioned record player with a lot of vinyl records – for the occasional rainy days.
Close to the tourist regions of Champagne and Vosges this beautiful seventeenth century farmhouse is located in a small village. It is a spacious mansion with swimming pool, landscaped garden and an orchard that provides enough space to set up some tents – so you can invite some additional friends. What is nicer than sit and eat together outside on the terrace all evening? In this forgotten corner of France you will find the peace, quiet and beauty you were looking for. It’s beautiful out here, come and see for yourself!
The garden stretches as far as you can see. In the meadow we sometimes keep horses of our neighbours, who run a rehabilitation center for competition horses.
From the kitchen you enter the terrace, where two large tables are each providing place for ten people. There is a barbecue and even a stone sink with faucet, where you can wash your vegetables. The pool has a diameter of almost five meters, just right for a quick cooling off or to endlessly play in. In the orchard you’ll find old and new apple trees, pear trees and plum trees, from which you are happily invited to pick fruit. The garden provides complete privacy, so you can sit outside until the small hours of night to watch the stars: nobody will hear you and you will bother no one.
Bourbévelle? Where on earth is that? Well, right here: at the crossroads of the regions Champagne-Ardenne, Lorraine and Franche-Comté. Let millions of holidaymakers race on to the south; you just leave the Route du Soleil for what it is. Coil through green hills; pass by meadows with cows and wheat fields, cross small villages along forests and rivers. Suddenly you notice that you see no concrete. No hideous malls, no apartment buildings, no factories. The quiet roads and not too steep slopes make the area prefect for hiking and cycling: just stroll around Bourbévelle, or saddle up for a big tour across the Vosges mountains.
Welcome to the ‘Wild East’ of France…!

“We arrived very late, having battled through a proper thunderstorm, and we were still greeted by a smile by Leon and Olga. The accommodation is part of their large old farmhouse, so we had use of their lounge and dining room. The kitchen was a wide corridor, now fitted with a terrific 60s American kitchen, as well as fridge, washing machine etc. Not to mention beers and juices in the fridge. How nice was that on a hot day. The bedrooms and bathroom were large and grand. It’s true that the sharing is also with a friendly dog, and the owners love of taxidermy. Breakfast comprised wonderful hot bread, fresh croissants, home-made jam, served with care and warmth by Olga. The kids loved the pool and played in it for hours. We were made to feel at home. (…) Bourbevelle is on a hill and for me the best bit was being in a French village, on the high point of their land, with splendid view of Countryside. Felt great.”

'Even better than the photo'
In the countryside every season has its own charm. Warm up in the salon after a refreshing winter walk and enjoy a ‘raclette’ dinner around the fireplace; laze out in the sun in summertime and stargaze after a blissful barbecue. Watch newborn lambs and flowering orchards in spring, admire the colour-changing of leaves in autumn and indulge in preparing your handpicked mushrooms. We took some pictures to get you in the mood.
